Introduction

04/02/2009 (Wednesday: 0800-1330)

Hi all… it has been a while we did not upload any entries in this blog. So, now we want to share something about what we have learned from the past few weeks. It might look cliché with the other groups but hopefully you will get something by reading this entry. Enjoy!

During the 5 hours lesson, we have being introduced to the LEGO Mindstorms sets. Each groups managed to get 1 box of it and we were asked to take full responsibilities towards the sets. Our lecturer; En. Abd. Ghani said that we have to be responsible to it as it costs a lot! It reminds me to a line from a movie “guard it with your life!!”… So, let’s get back to the main point. Firstly, we were introduced to each and everyone of the piece in the box. We really had to learn it by hard as it’s a lot!! Then, we went trough its functions; one by one. We were also taught on how to program it using the LEGO Mindstorms software.

After getting to know each other well, we were asked to play with it. We decided to make a robot which uses almost all of the components in the kit like the sensor, motors, and etc. After a few attempts, we managed to build a robot which can move and stop controlled by the voice sensor. I will leave you with the pictures and videos so that you can see it comprehensibly. The thing that we discovered by building the robot is we need to be very patient as it may require us to change the program a few times. However, we also find it interesting as it’s more on hands on work and we did not realize that we have spent 5 hours working on it. Till we meet again next time…

Quotes of the day:

"As a remedy against all ills; poverty, sickness, and melancholy only one thing is absolutely necessary; a liking for work."

Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867)
